Dhaka, April 18 -- Police have arrested a teacher on charges of abducting and raping a 17-year-old female student of a madrasa in Sylhet's Bishwanath.

Bishwanath Police Station chief Enamul Haque Chowdhury said he was arrested in a raid in Osmaninagar Upazila on Friday.

The teacher, identified as Selim Mia, 42, is married and has three children.

The victim has been sent to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for a medical examination, Enamul told bdnews24.com.

He said, "The father of the madrasa student filed a case at Bishwanath Police Station on Friday under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, naming Selim the sole accused.

"An unknown auto-rickshaw driver has also been made an accused in the case."
