Dhaka, Jan. 9 -- Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chief Tarique Rahman has postponed his planned visit to the northern region following a request from the Election Commission (EC).
The decision was announced following a meeting of the party's National Standing Committee on Friday night.
The four-day visit was scheduled to start on Sunday, with the first rally taking place in Bogura in the afternoon. He was also scheduled to visit Dinajpur, Thakurgaon, Panchagarh, Nilphamari and Lalmonirhat.
The announcement of the visit had raised questions about whether it would violate the electoral code of conduct. The BNP, however, maintained that it would not.
