Bangladesh, Sept. 15 -- Water levels in the Surma and Kushiyara rivers have risen over the last 24 hours and could breach the danger mark in the next three days.

As a result, low-lying areas of Sylhet, Sunamganj and Moulvibazar could face short-term flooding, according to the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC).

In a statement on Monday, the FFWC said that the waters of the Kushiyara River is flowing 25 centimetres above the danger level at the Amalshid Point in Sylhet.

It also noted that in the last 24 hours, "heavy to very heavy" rain was recorded in the Sylhet Division, parts of the Rangpur and Mymensingh divisions, and upstream in the India's Meghalaya, Assam and Mizoram.
