Dhaka, Feb. 8 -- Two supporters of rival candidates contesting the Netrokona-1 constituency have been fined for violating the election code of conduct.

A mobile court imposed the fines during a late-night drive on Saturday near the Durgapur Upazila Parishad area, according to Md Mizanur Rahman, the local executive magistrate.

Officials said campaign banners had been hung on electricity poles, walls and trees in breach of election rules. One supporter of Golam Rabbani, a candidate backed by the 11-party alliance and Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis, was fined Tk 10,000.

A supporter of BNP candidate Kaiser Kamal was also fined Tk 10,000 for the same offence.

The penalties were imposed under the Election Code of Conduct 2024, Mizanur said.
