Dhaka, Feb. 15 -- A woman has died after being run over by a bus in Sirajganj, prompting local residents to stage a road blockade in protest.

The incident occurred around 9am on Sunday in the Biyara Ghat area, said Shahidul Islam, chief (OC) of Sirajganj Sadar Police Station.

The victim, 31-year-old Akhi Khatun, was the wife of Faruk Hossain, who owns Food Care Hotel on Jubilee Road in the town.

Police said she was returning home after dropping her daughter at a madrasa when a Dhaka-bound SI Paribahan bus struck her.

"She died on the spot," OC Shahidul said.

Witnesses said residents blocked the Malshapara-Mulibari road following the crash, demanding action. Police later brought the situation under control.
