Dhaka, Jan. 3 -- The Election Commission (EC) has warned that sharing photos or videos of postal ballots on social media is a punishable offence and could lead to the suspension of a voter's national identity card.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Commission said legal action may also be taken against those who violate the secrecy of postal voting.
The warning comes as the commission begins distributing postal ballots to registered voters ahead of the 13th parliamentary election, scheduled for Feb 12.
Postal ballots are being sent in phases, and some voters have already received them. Election officials said some recipients have been posting images of their ballots online.
