Dhaka, Oct. 28 -- A Khulna court has handed down the death penalty to seven people for the killing of two people, including a woman, in a 2009 attack in the city's Daulatpur area.

Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Shumi Ahmed delivered the verdict in the presence of four of the accused on Tuesday, court bench assistant Shuvendu Roy Chowdhury said.

Those sentenced to death are Imamul Kabir Jibon (absconding), Raj, Shahid Shahariar Mithun, Tushar Gazi, Shoaib Sumon (absconding), 'Shakil' (absconding), and 'Tuhin'. Two others, Kuti and Shamim, were acquitted.
