Dhaka, June 23 -- Officials who have been protesting at the Secretariat since Eid have paused their demonstrations for a day in "hopes of receiving good news".

Badiul Kabir, co-chairman of the Secretariat Officers-Employees Unity Forum, made the announcement after a two-hour work stoppage programme at the library of the Ministry of Public Administration on Monday.

The employees have been holding various programmes, including processions, blockades, and protests since Jun 15 after the Eid holiday to demand the repeal of the Government Service (Amendment) Ordinance.
