Dhaka, Jan. 1 -- A student has been seriously injured after being hit by a teacher's car on the Rajshahi University campus, officials said.

Liza Akhter was struck outside Tapashi Rabeya Hall on Thursday and was first taken to the university medical centre before being transferred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH), the university proctor said.

Doctors at RMCH said she had suffered a broken leg and was scheduled to undergo surgery on Thursday night.

Liza is a 2022-23 student in the Department of History and a resident of Rahamatunnesa Hall.

Witnesses said a speeding car hit her, causing her to fall. The car was being driven by Prof Abul Kalam Azad of the Institute of Environmental Sciences, they said.
