Dhaka, July 7 -- The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast increased rainfall in the southern regions of the country due to the formation of a low-pressure system over Gangetic West Bengal and surrounding areas.

"Rain is already occurring, and it will increase under the influence of the low-pressure system. However, the heavy rainfall is expected to subside after 24 hours," Meteorologist Hafizur Rahman said.

In a weather alert, the Met Office warned of heavy rainfall in three southern divisions.

Due to the activity of the southwest monsoon, heavy to very heavy rainfall may occur in parts of the Chattogram, Khulna, and Barishal divisions in the 24 hours from 10am on Monday, it said.
