Dhaka, Dec. 28 -- The blockade of the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway has been withdrawn after one and a half hours.

Tarek Al Mehedi, an additional police superintendent, confirmed the blockade was withdrawn around 4pm on Sunday.

Traffic movement on one of the country's busiest highways has resumed, he said.

Earlier, local students and residents began the blockade around 3pm on Sunday in the Signboard area, placing bamboo and wooden logs across the road.

The protest brought traffic to a halt on both sides of the highways, causing long tailbacks and severe congestion.
