Dhaka, Nov. 14 -- Police's Detective Branch has arrested the friend identified as the "prime suspect" in the killing of Ashraful Haque, whose dismembered body recovered from a plastic drum near the High Court in Dhaka.

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) said in a statement that Jarezul Islam was arrested on Friday night in Cumilla's Daudkandi.

Ashraful was killed over an alleged "extramarital relationship", and Jarezul is described as the "main perpetrator", it added.

RAB-3, in a separate statement, said they arrested Shamima -- identified with a single name as Jarezul's partner and a suspect in the case -- with "several pieces of evidence".

The elite force, however, did not immediately specify where she had been detained.
