Dhaka, April 3 -- After the long Eid-ul-Fitr break, people are yet to head back to Dhaka in large numbers, but transport operators say the rush will begin Friday, with some anticipating traffic gridlocks.
The Highway Police, however, expect the return journey to be as smooth as the outbound rush before Eid-though with slightly more pressure on the roads.
Offices and government institutions will reopen Sunday after a nine-day holiday, and schools will also resume next week.
While people had a whole week to travel home before Eid, the bulk of return travel is expected on Friday and Saturday. Transport officials anticipate congestion on the Dhaka-North Bengal and Dhaka-Chattogram highways during these two days.
