Dhaka, May 13 -- Police will petition a court to remand singer and former Manikganj-2 Awami League Member of Parliament Momtaz Begum in their custody for five days in the murder case of hawker Md Sagar during the July Uprising.

Sub-Inspector Monirul Islam from Mirpur Model Police Station, the investigating officer in the case, announced the plan on Tuesday.

SI Monirul said that Momtaz would be brought to the court of the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate for the hearing.

She was apprehended by Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) in the capital's Dhanmondi on Monday night, according to spokesman Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Talebur Rahman.

Momtaz was then formally arrested in the Sagar murder case.
