Dhaka, Feb. 2 -- Police have said privately owned vehicles can be requisitioned for election-related operations, despite a 2019 High Court ruling that excluded personal cars from the list of requisitionable vehicles.

Amid questions over the scope and legality of the ongoing requisition process, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Additional Commissioner (Traffic) Anisur Rahman explained the procedure to bdnews24.com on Monday.

He said around 5,000 vehicles would be commandeered for election duty for nine agencies, including the police, Army, Ansar, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and telecommunications services.
