Dhaka, Dec. 17 -- Emergency responders have brought a blaze under control at a plastic warehouse in Old Dhaka's Islambagh two and a half hours after efforts to contain it began.

Rozina Akter, the duty officer at the Fire Service Control Room, said the agency received reports of the blaze at Chairman Ghat around 1:30pm on Wednesday.

In response, 11 firefighting units rushed to the scene one after another. The fire was contained at approximately 4pm. However, it had not been completely extinguished by that time, she added.

Photos and videos circulating on social media show thick plumes of smoke rising from the area, visible from afar.
