Dhaka, July 3 -- Patiya Police Station chief (OC) Abu Zayed Md Nazmun Noor has been sacked from his role following daylong protests and a highway blockade by the activists of the National Citizen Party (NCP) and the Anti-discrimination Student Movement.

He was withdrawn on Wednesday night and attached to the Chattogram Range DIG office, confirmed Chattogram Police Superintendent Saiful Islam Shantu.

The protest began after several Anti-discrimination activists were injured in a police baton charge in the morning.

The clash followed tensions over the detention of a Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader the night before.

Demonstrators first surrounded the station, demanding the OC's removal.
