Dhaka, Feb. 15 -- Pakistan's government is going to transfer jailed former prime minister Imran Khan to hospital for urgent eye treatment.

Opposition protests entered a second day and his lawyers petitioned the Islamabad High Court for his release on health grounds, Arab News reports.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said Khan had been allowed to speak to his sons and that a medical board would be formed.

"Providing facilities to every prisoner in accordance with the law is the government's responsibility," he said, urging restraint and warning against politicising health matters.
