Dhaka, Feb. 5 -- Over half of the home of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Dhanmondi's Road No. 32 has been demolished. The demolition work, which involves a crane and excavator, has been ongoing for over 11 hours.
In response to an online speech by deposed premier Sheikh Hasina made from exile in India, a demolition campaign, dubbed the "Bulldozer March", began with vandalism at the home of Bangladesh's first president. The demolition continued on Thursday in the presence of many people.
The programme was paused for about half an hour from 9:15am on Thursday. Students and members of the public could be seen nearby chanting slogans. Some agitated people had climbed onto the second and third storeys of the building.
