Dhaka, Dec. 12 -- Sharif Osman bin Hadi, an independent candidate in the Dhaka-8 constituency and convenor of the Inquilab Mancha platform, has been wounded in a shooting attack in the capital's Bijoynagar area.

The incident occurred shortly after Jummah prayers on Friday.

He was subsequently rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors said he had suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was being treated in intensive care.

Deputy Commissioner Masud Alam of Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Ramna Division said authorities are aware of the shooting but details are still being verified.

DMP's Deputy Commissioner for Media Muhammad Talebur Rahman said the attack took place at around 2:25pm near the Bijoynagar box culvert.
