Dhaka, July 1 -- More than 1.7 million taxpayers have submitted their income tax returns online in the 2024-25 fiscal year.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) said the surge in return submissions was driven by greater automation, mandatory filing requirements for select groups, and streamlined digital services.

In comparison, only 526,487 taxpayers filed e-returns in the 2023-24 fiscal year.

Describing the digital shift as a "landmark reform", the revenue authority said its e-return platform had "drawn widespread response from taxpayers" and "encouraged voluntary compliance".
