Dhaka, July 20 -- A group of students in Bandarban has said the National Citizen Party (NCP) was "unwelcome" in the district, condemning party leader Sarjis Alam's comments that the hill region is a place to send "corrupt officers as punishment".
At a press briefing on Sunday, the group said such remarks were "insulting and discriminatory".
Holding the briefing under the banner "Bandarban Chhatra Samaj", the majority of the group were from the Pahari Chhatra Parishad, the student wing of the Parbatya Chattogram Jana Samhati Samity (PCJSSS).
NCP Chief Organiser (North) Sarjis made the comment during the party's "July March" in Panchagarh on Jul 3.
