Dhaka, May 20 -- Talks between the government and the National Board of Revenue (NBR) Reform Unity Council over the controversial ordinance to split the tax authority have broken down, prompting the alliance to announce a renewed sit-in protest across revenue offices nationwide.

The protesters, made up of officials and employees of the NBR, argue that Finance Advisor Salehuddin Ahmed and members of the Advisory Council remained uncompromising during Tuesday's meeting, refusing to reconsider the current structure that has divided the NBR into two entities.
