Dhaka, March 16 -- National Board of Revenue, or NBR, Chairman Md Abdur Rahman is keen to enforce "100 percent" filing of income tax returns next year after online submissions for individual taxpayers went up this fiscal year.

The tax returns rose by "five times" compared with last year, he said in a workshop at Agargaon's NBR Bhaban on Sunday.

"We've already received nearly 1.5 million returns. We want to make it 100 percent compulsory next year, with a few exceptions. Those who have special reasons may not comply."

Rahman pointed out that it was "not possible" for taxpayers to not file returns online.
