Dhaka, June 7 -- Jamaat-e-Islami has welcomed the possible new date for the 13th parliamentary elections announced by Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus.

In a statement on Friday, its Ameer Shafiqur Rahman said the nation is "assured" by the chief advisor's announcement.

He said the nation hopes the government will take all necessary measures to ensure a fair and acceptable election is held within the stipulated time.

Yunus said in his address to the nation on the eve of Eid-ul-Azha, "After reviewing the ongoing reform activities related to justice, reform, and elections, I am announcing that the next national election will be held any day in the first half of April 2026."
