Dhaka, Feb. 16 -- As preparations are under way for the swearing in of a new government, Nasimul Ghani - the senior secretary of home affairs - has been appointed as the new cabinet secretary.

According to tradition, the cabinet secretary swears in the new cabinet. The new BNP government is to be sworn in on the South Plaza of the National Parliament Building on Tuesday afternoon.

The Ministry of Public Administration issued a notice appointing Ghani as cabinet secretary on Monday, stating that the order will immediately take effect.

Ghani was brought back from retirement during the changeover in government following the 2024 July Uprising and was given a contractual appointment for two years as senior secretary.
