Dhaka, Feb. 21 -- A retired schoolteacher has been critically injured after his leg tendons were allegedly severed in an attack over a land dispute in Narsingdi's Shibpur Upazila. Angry residents, incited by rumours of his death, later vandalised and set fire to the accused neighbour's house.
The incident occurred on Friday night at Mogol Bari in Mollakanda village under Putia Union, according to Kohinoor Mia, chief of Shibpur Model Police Station.
The injured man, Abu Sayeed Mogol, 70, a retired teacher at Shashpur Kazi Mofiz Uddin High School, is receiving treatment in the intensive care unit of a Dhaka hospital.
His daughter Rokeya Lipi said the family had long been in dispute with neighbour Swapan Mogol over a piece of land.
