Dhaka, July 7 -- Union council member Bachchu Mia, one of the accused arrested over the mob lynching of a mother and her two children in Cumilla's Muradnagar, has initially agreed to give a confessional statement in court but ultimately refused to do so.

The court later ordered him to be sent to jail on Sunday evening, according to Cumilla Court Police Inspector Sadekur Rahman.

Earlier in the day, among the eight arrestees, Bachchu had expressed willingness to give a statement under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

Following this, Judge Siddak Azad of Cumilla Judicial Magistrates' Court instructed the authorities to begin recording his statement.
