Dhaka, Oct. 11 -- Teachers and staff listed under the government's monthly pay order (MPO) scheme are set to begin a continuous sit-in protest outside the National Press Club for Sunday, demanding a house rent allowance equivalent to 20 percent of their basic salary.

Delwar Hossain Azizi, the member secretary of the alliance seeking nationalisation of the MPO-listed educational institutions, said that organisations involving teachers and staff under the bloc would conduct the programme.

On Sept 30, the government increased the house rent allowance for MPO-listed teachers and staff by Tk 500. Protest leaders publicly rejected the increase on Oct 5 and called for a protest.
