Dhaka, May 31 -- Two men allegedly involved in drug dealing and mugging have been beaten to death by a mob in Dhaka's Darussalam.

The two young men had gone to the area around 12pm on Saturday when angry locals launched a fatal assault, killing them on the spot, said Darussalam police Assistant Commissioner Imdad Hossain Bipul.

One of the victims has been identified as Tanvir, but police are yet to confirm the identity of the other.

According to police, both men were "listed drug dealers and muggers".

"Yesterday [Friday], there was a major anti-drug drive in that area. Today [Saturday], when two people went there, the people got angry and beat them up. They are both known drug dealers and robbers in the area," the officer said.
