Dhaka, Jan. 6 -- National Citizen Party (NCP) Convenor Nahid Islam has alleged that some media outlets are attempting to defame leaders and activists of the July Uprising ahead of the upcoming elections.

"The incident involving July activist Tahrima Jannat Surovi, who was recently released on bail, is a continuation of this," Nahid said.

He made the remarks late on Monday night after visiting Surovi at her residence in Tongi.

"Some media outlets are trying to defame people who were at the forefront of the uprising, keeping the elections in mind," Nahid said.

"There is a planned conspiracy ahead of the polls to portray July Uprising leaders and activists as extortionists and corrupt."
