Dhaka, Jan. 26 -- A young man has died after suffering burn injuries in a gas fire at a flat in the capital's Mugda.

He died around 1:30pm on Monday at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka, police said.

The victim, 30-year-old Ujjal Hossain, lived in a rented flat in Mugda. He is originally from Madaripur's Sadar Upazila.

Ujjal's father Jahangir Hossain told journalists that the incident took place at around 1am on Friday.

"He went to the kitchen to fry eggs. As soon as he used a matchstick to light the gas cooker, a fire broke out and he was badly burned," he said.

He was taken to the burn institute early in the morning and admitted for treatment.
