Dhaka, Feb. 20 -- A father and son have died after their motorcycle collided with a truck at a police checkpost in Jamalpur Sadar Upazila.

The accident took place near the Sherpur Bridge on Friday, said Rabiul Islam, senior station officer of the Fire Service and Civil Defence, Jamalpur.

The dead are Delwar Mahmud, 50, and his son Ishtiaq Mahmud, 22, both residents of Sherpur Sadar Upazila.

Delwar worked in a private organisation, while Ishtiaq is a student at a private university in Narayanganj.

Delwar's younger son, Abrar, 5, is seriously injured and admitted to the hospital.

Citing locals, police said officers were on duty at the checkpost around noon and signalled a truck heading toward Sherpur to stop.
