Dhaka, Jan. 5 -- A lawyer has filed a writ petition challenging the legality of the schedules for the parliamentary election and the referendum.
The petition was submitted on Monday by Supreme Court lawyer Yunus Ali Akand, who has asked the High Court to suspend the implementation of the schedule announced on 11 December. The schedule sets the parliamentary election and the referendum to be held on the same day.
In his filing, Yunus has also sought a court directive to form a caretaker government and to issue a fresh election timetable.
The chief election commissioner and other relevant officials have been named as respondents in the case.
