Dhaka, May 26 -- A Supreme Court lawyer has moved the Supreme Court's Appellate Division over BNP leader Ishraque Hossain's swearing-in as the Dhaka South mayor.

Md Mamunur Rashid filed an appeal on Monday seeking a stay on the High Court's order that rejected a petition challenging Ishraque's oath-taking, confirmed lawyer Humayra Noor.

Humayra, who is representing Mamunur in court, said they sought a stay on the Election Tribunal's verdict declaring Ishraque as the mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and the proceedings of the Election Commission's gazette, where the BNP leader was named as mayor.

The matter will be heard in the Appellate Division's Chamber Court.
