Dhaka, July 5 -- A local leader of the BNP's student wing has been killed and at least 20 others injured in a clash between rival groups in Brahmanbaria's Nasirnagar Upazila.
The violence broke out around midday on Saturday at Chatlapar Bazar, involving supporters of the "Ulta" and "Molla" factions, Nasirnagar Police Station chief (OC) Md Azharul Islam said.
The deceased has been identified as Sohrab Mia, 28, assistant organising secretary of the Chatlapar Union unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD).
He was a known supporter of the "Molla" group.
Citing local residents, police said the two groups had been locked in a prolonged rivalry over territorial control, which culminated in a pitched battle using sharp weapons.
