Dhaka, June 28 -- Bangladesh have collapsed to an innings and 78-run defeat inside just 28 minutes on the fourth morning of the Colombo Test, conceding the two-match series 1-0 to hosts Sri Lanka.

The visitors lost their last four wickets in the space of just 34 deliveries, as left-arm spinner Prabath Jayasuriya completed a 5-wicket haul to seal Sri Lanka's ninth innings victory over Bangladesh in Test cricket.

Shortly after the defeat, Najmul Hossain Shanto announced his resignation as Test captain.

Resuming with six wickets down on Saturday, Litton Das (14) was the first to fall, edging a forward defence to wicketkeeper Kusal Mendis off Jayasuriya's third ball of the day.
