Dhaka, Feb. 13 -- The Jatiya Party has failed to secure a single seat in Rangpur, long regarded as the party's stronghold, in the Feb 12 election.

In a major setback, Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader and Secretary General Shamim Haider Patwary both finished third in their respective constituencies.

Quader came third in Rangpur-3, which covers the city corporation and Sadar areas. Patwary also placed third in Gaibandha-1.

While the party founded by former military strongman HM Ershad suffered a dramatic decline, Jamaat-e-Islami emerged as the dominant force across Rangpur.
