Dhaka, Feb. 26 -- Following the change of power, the interim government has renamed Bangabandhu Bridge and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel as part of an ongoing process to alter the names of public infrastructure previously dedicated to Bangabandhu and his family members.

From now on, the bridge will officially be called Jamuna Bridge, while the tunnel will be referred to as Karnaphuli Tunnel.

The Bridges Division under the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges issued a notification on Wednesday formalising the changes.

Bangabandhu Bridge, which was open to traffic on Jun 23, 1998, was originally known as Jamuna Bridge during its construction phase.
