Dhaka, March 21 -- Jamaat-e-Islami chief Shafiqur Rahman believes the people of Bangladesh will not accept any attempt to rehabilitate the Awami League after the party was ousted from power by a mass uprising.

In a Facebook post on Friday, he said: "The people primarily want to see justice for the mass killings. There is no scope for thinking about anything else beyond that."

He urged the public to remain restrained, vigilant, and united, rising above party lines to play a responsible role in safeguarding the country's independence and sovereignty.

His remarks came against the backdrop of Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus' statement that the interim government had no plans to ban the Awami League on Thursday.
