Dhaka, Feb. 14 -- Jamaat-e-Islami chief Shafiqur Rahman has condemned reports of post-election violence across Bangladesh and called on authorities to take swift action against those responsible.

In a Facebook post on Saturday, he said supporters of Jamaat, its 11-party alliance, independent candidates and others holding political views different from the BNP had been targeted after the Feb 12 general election.

"We strongly condemn and protest the incidents in which innocent citizens and voters have been subjected to violence," he wrote.

"We declare our firm solidarity with every innocent victim."
