Dhaka, May 16 -- Jagannath University students have launched a hunger strike over a four-point list of demands, continuing their protests into the third day at Dhaka's Kakrail Mosque intersection.

More than 50 students joined the fast-unto-death demonstration starting at 4:30pm Friday, demanding housing allowances, a budget increase, a second campus, and an investigation into a recent police attack on students and punishment of those responsible.

Kamrun Nahar, a protesting student, said: "We will not stop our hunger strike until our demands are met. When we came with the long march, the police attacked us and injured us, our teachers. We will go back with our rights."
