Dhaka, Oct. 7 -- The Investigation Agency of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has launched a probe into "crimes against humanity" allegations against the Awami League as a party, accusing the organisation of attempting to suppress the student-led July Uprising.

The tribunal's Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam said on Tuesday that an official has been appointed to investigate the allegations and action will be taken against other parties if they are found to be involved during the course of the investigation.

"Investigation work is ongoing against the Awami League as a party and an organisation. Now, the investigation against the Awami League is officially under way," he said.
