Bangladesh, Aug. 29 -- The promotion of 268 civil servants to deputy secretary has triggered disquiet in the information cadre, with officers alleging that seniors were passed over in favour of juniors.

Several of them alleged that despite repeated appeals, officers from the 24th, 27th and 28th BCS batches in the information cadre were largely overlooked in this round of promotions.

They had expected a higher number of promotions this time-at least enough for the 28th batch to narrow the gap with the administration cadre's 30th batch.

They complained that some senior and skilled officers from the 24th and 27th BCS batches were bypassed, while juniors were promoted instead.
