Dhaka, Nov. 17 -- India has reacted to the death sentence handed to former prime minister Sheikh Hasina in the July Uprising case while avoiding any direct comment on the ruling itself.

In its statement on Monday, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs said it would prioritise the "best interests" of the people of Bangladesh, focusing on peace, democracy, inclusion and stability.

"We will always engage constructively with all stakeholders to that end," it added.

The International Crimes Tribunal-1, led by Justice Golam Mortuza Mozumder, delivered the verdict against Hasina and two others, including former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan, who also received a death sentence.
