Dhaka, Dec. 30 -- Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed condolences following the death of former Bangladeshi premier and BNP chief Khaleda Zia, describing her as a significant figure in Bangladesh's political history and in relations between the two neighbours.
In a post on X on Tuesday, Modi said he was "deeply saddened" by her death and offered condolences to her family and to the people of Bangladesh.
"As the first woman prime minister of Bangladesh, her important contributions towards the development of Bangladesh, as well as India-Bangladesh relations, will always be remembered," he said.
