Dhaka, Dec. 31 -- India's Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is set to visit the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi to convey condolences over the death of former prime minister Khaleda Zia, The Indian Express reports.

The visit will take place on Thursday, when the defence minister will sign the condolence book at the Bangladesh High Commission.

The Indian newspaper sees Delhi's gesture as a strategic outreach to the new leadership of the BNP, which is poised to play a leading role in Bangladesh's political landscape in the coming months.
