Dhaka, Nov. 20 -- The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, led by Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed, has declared the 13th Amendment to the Constitution null and void, restoring the provision for a non-partisan caretaker government to oversee general elections.
Since the ruling was passed on Thursday, questions have been raised about how the system will be implemented.
Legal experts say the verdict automatically reinstates the caretaker government provision in the Constitution, but the approaching parliamentary election will still be held under the incumbent interim government.
The caretaker government system will come into effect from the 14th parliamentary election.
