Dhaka, Jan. 20 -- The Dhaka Metropolitan Police has warned that drivers will face fines of up to Tk 10,000 or three months in jail for honking near Shahjalal International Airport.
In a public notice on Tuesday, the DMP said the ban will take effect from Jan 25 in the Civil Aviation Authority's roads and parking areas around the airport.
Special mobile courts, with magistrates from the DMP, environment department, Bangladesh Road Transport Authority, Civil Aviation and Dhaka North City Corporation, will enforce the rules through fines or imprisonment.
The airport zone and a 1.5km stretch from Scholastica School to Hotel Le Meridien, along with Gulshan, Banani, Baridhara and Niketan, were declared "silent areas" in September last year....
