Dhaka, Feb. 18 -- The government is considering bringing "reforms" to the Rapid Action Battalion, or RAB, despite recommendations from the United Nations Human Rights Office, or OHCHR, to disband the elite police unit accused of committing serious human rights violations including extrajudicial killings.
Home Advisor Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said, "There have been discussions about RAB. We have sent a proposal, including suggestions regarding its name and uniform."
When asked about possible changes to RAB, he responded: "If necessary, it will be reorganised."
He said a decision would be made in the next meeting, adding: "Everyone needs to consider how to proceed... If any changes are to be made, ideas must come from within."
